Commodity Fetishism
2006-2018
This series is in response to the extreme version of what Karl Marx termed Commodity Fetishism in our contemporary food system. Food products are almost always stripped of the chain of labor, land, and production prior to their existence on store shelves, and their value is reduced to an extrusion of the plant and animal life from which they originated; a reduction to a dollar value. A pernicious veil is drawn between the consumer and the economic, environmental, political, and human toll of food production in the modern age.
